Reliez Valley, Pleasant Hill

Reliez Valley on Pleasant Hill's west edge: homes on large, hilly lots along a county scenic road, next to Briones Regional Park. A Tanja Odzak guide.

Where is Reliez Valley?

Reliez Valley follows Reliez Valley Road through the hills west of Pleasant Hill, between Pleasant Hill Road and Briones Regional Park. The Pleasant Hill side is the northern and eastern part, closest to the city. The valley runs south into Lafayette, where it has its own character and history, and north toward Martinez.

Much of Reliez Valley is unincorporated Contra Costa County rather than part of any city, and the U.S. Census counts it as its own community. Addresses here can carry a Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, or Martinez mailing address, so the mailing address alone doesn't tell you which city, if any, a home is in. Neighborhood edges vary from one source to the next.

At a glance: In the 12 months through September 2026, the median sale price of a single-family home in Reliez Valley was $1,200,000, across 5 sales. Homes sold for about 102.3% of their list price, and the middle sale took 24 days on the market.

Reliez Valley Single Family Home Prices

Sales through September 30, 2026

Few sales, weak data. Reliez Valley had only 5 single-family sales in the last 12 months. Too little data means the numbers are weak, and weak numbers can misrepresent the market: one or two homes can swing every chart on this page. Read them as a rough guide, not a firm picture.

These numbers count single-family homes only. Condos, townhouses and attached homes are left out. They are the single-family homes that closed in Reliez Valley, from the MLS. A neighborhood this size can swing from one quarter to the next on a handful of sales, so these show where the market has been, not what your home will sell for. When doing neighborhood stats, it is imperative to use the correct boundaries, as overlapping into adjacent neighborhoods may skew results. Living in Reliez Valley

What it is like on the ground in Reliez Valley: getting around, errands, nature and schools, from Local Logic.

Why does Reliez Valley feel so rural?

Because it has been kept that way on purpose. The county's plan describes Reliez Valley, along with neighboring Alhambra Valley and Briones, as low-density communities built around their open space, rolling hills, wildlife, and seasonal creeks, with no commercial areas at all. Residents drive into Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, or Martinez for shopping and errands.

Beyond the homes, the Briones Hills are protected by an agreement among the county and eight cities, Pleasant Hill among them, not to annex the 64-square-mile area for urban development. Reliez Valley Road itself is a designated county scenic route.

What kind of homes are in Reliez Valley?

Mostly single-family homes on large lots, from mid-century ranch houses to newer custom homes, many set among oaks on sloped or hillside ground. Some sit on private roads with views across the hills, and a few properties approach an acre. Because homes were built one at a time over many decades, two neighbors can differ a great deal in age, size, and style.

What should you look for in a Reliez Valley home? On a hillside lot, look closely at drainage, retaining walls, and the foundation, and at how the driveway and any private road are maintained, and by whom. Ask whether the home is on a public sewer line or a septic system, since that changes what to inspect. Find out whether the address is inside Pleasant Hill city limits or in the unincorporated county, because permits, some rules at sale, and which agencies serve the home follow from that. There's no ordinance requiring a sewer lateral certificate in Reliez Valley, however a sewer lateral inspection is recommended.

What schools serve Reliez Valley?

Reliez Valley sits where three school districts meet. Depending on the address, a home may be served by the Lafayette School District and the Acalanes Union High School District, by Martinez Unified, or by the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, which serves Pleasant Hill. On the Pleasant Hill side, the closest Mt. Diablo Unified schools include Strandwood Elementary on Gladys Drive, and Pleasant Hill Adventist Academy, a private school for kindergarten through grade 12, is on Grayson Road. Because the district lines run through the valley, always check the district boundary map for a specific address. The Pleasant Hill page lists the public and private schools across the city.

Are there swim clubs near Reliez Valley?

Several private swim clubs are close. The Buena Vista Swim Club on Cortsen Road, founded in 1962, has a family-size pool and a baby pool, and Pleasant Hill Aquatics on Boyd Road has been member-owned since 1954 and is home of the Penguins swim team. The Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District's public Aquatic Park on Gregory Lane is home of the PH Dolfins summer swim team. Each club has its own membership and fee, and joining is optional.

What else is nearby?

Briones Regional Park's grassy ridgelines, oak woodland, and trails lie to the west. Brookwood Park, a 6.3-acre neighborhood park on Withers Avenue with picnic areas and a play structure, is run by the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District, whose service area reaches beyond the city limits. Dinosaur Hill Park, with trails and views of Mount Diablo, is a few minutes east on Taylor Boulevard. For young athletes, the Pleasant Hill Baseball Association has run baseball and softball since 1958, and Lafayette's youth leagues are close by to the south.

How do you get around from Reliez Valley?

Reliez Valley Road connects to Pleasant Hill Road, which leads south to Highway 24 toward Lafayette, Oakland, and San Francisco, and east into Pleasant Hill and Interstate 680. The Lafayette BART station and the Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre BART station are each a short drive away.

What should sellers in Reliez Valley know?

Contra Costa County's transfer tax applies, with no extra city tax on top. There's no ordinance requiring a sewer lateral certificate in Reliez Valley, however a sewer lateral inspection is recommended. If the address is inside Pleasant Hill city limits, the City's time-of-sale weatherization disclosure applies, a short checklist of energy items like attic insulation and weatherstripping; unincorporated addresses follow the county's rules instead. Much of the land in and around the valley is on the state's fire hazard severity zone maps, so check the address: a home in a High or Very High zone adds a routine defensible space inspection. My Pleasant Hill home selling page explains the steps.

What draws buyers to Reliez Valley?

Buyers who look at Reliez Valley are usually drawn to its larger lots and hillside setting, the oak woodland and open space around it, Briones Regional Park next door, and still being a short drive from Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, and Highway 24.

Why do homeowners sell in Reliez Valley?

Homeowners move on for all kinds of reasons including (but not limited to): upsizing to a second or third home, divorce, relocating for work, or the passing of a family member.
