10 Things Not to Do When Buying a Home

How do you make sure you actually get to move into your dream home once you're in contract? Here are ten things not to do along the way.

Hi, I'm Tanja Odzak, Realtor with eXp Realty, helping people sell and buy homes right here in the East Bay for the last 10 years.

Once you're in contract: don't change jobs, become self-employed, or quit. Don't buy a new car. Don't open new charge cards or let existing accounts fall behind. Don't spend money set aside for closing. Don't leave any debt off your loan application. Don't buy furniture or make large purchases, even with deferred payment. Don't allow new credit inquiries outside of insurance shopping. Don't make large deposits or withdrawals without checking with your lender first. Don't switch bank accounts. And don't co-sign a loan for anyone, and tell your lender immediately if you're already a co-signer somewhere else.

I'm Tanja Odzak, and I've sold over $100 million worth of homes with a decade of experience in the East Bay. You only get to move in once you close, and these ten keep that closing on track. Reach out if you want more detail on any of them.
