When relocating to or from the Oakland / Berkeley / East Bay Area, with children as well as when relocating with pets, can be challenging. The younger your kids are, the harder it can be and if you have a special needs child or pet, that can also add another level of challenge to your relocation. Things like making sure that you have snacks and drinks available for your kids, as well as food and water for your animals, is essential during relocation.
If part of your relocation includes driving to your new city, make sure to plan your route considering that bathroom breaks will be more frequent when you travel with a child, especially a young one. Dogs need to be walked and cats, well mine went on strike, but you still should offer some litter box time. With the kids when relocating, you’ll definitely need to have some form of entertainment ready – books are nice, but after the past year, us parents know that almost nothing works like downloading movies and games to a phone or table, probably Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnight. Podcasts and audiobooks are also great! Also, remember to keep toys nearby instead of inside the moving truck when relocating. You probably don’t want to drive all day long either, as kids and pets have a hard time with that. It’s really hard and not great for them to be contained that long. Keeping it fun is important, and why not hit that weird & quirky looking road side shop or attraction? Remember to make relocating fun and exciting.
Relocating affects different people, differently but the relocation process is exhausting for everyone! Starting anew in a different place is DEFINITELY challenging and requires patience and determination. Nevertheless, it is doable, and with the tips mentioned above, I hope your relocation will be more comfortable.
