Why does Tanja know so much about the Glenview Neighborhood, Oakland?

Tanja got her Glenview home back at the end of 2012, just 2 weeks before her second child was born in it, in 2012. (yes! Tanja’s second child was a planned homebirth. How many people can say they were actually BORN IN Glenview?!)

Since then, Tanja wanted to help make the Glenview neighborhood extra awesome for her kids, neighbors, and local Glenview community. She got very involved with planning National Night Out parties, block parties, volunteering with the Glenview Neighborhood Association, hosting the Halloween Flashmob Dance Party, both her children go to Glenview Elementary School, etc.

Living in Glenview, Oakland

Glenview is a neighborhood in the lower Oakland Hills with a strong sense of community, and annual events that help bring neighbors closer together to increase that ever-so-important connection with each other. Glenview is home to many annual neighborhood events such as National Night Out, the Greenwood Ave Garage Sale (that is hoping to become a neighborhood wide event), Halloween Puppet Show called “Driveway Follies”, Halloween Flashmob Dance Party, GNA Ice Cream Social, and more.

The main strip of Park Boulevard is where most of the community is centered about. More than a century ago, this now bustling street was where fallen redwoods were rolled down from Montclair, to reach the lumberyard.  Additionally, early maps show a Key System streetcar route extension running between Wellington St and Hampel St, but this extension was never realized.

Park Boulevard is the spine of the Glenview Neighborhood, and centered on Park is the Glenview Village… the heart of the neighborhood where many wonderful restaurants (Park Burger, Paulista, Marzano’s, and more!), a neighborhood market (Savemore), nail salons (Femi Macus, etc), and many other neighborhood services that make living here easy (Glenview Key & Lock, Hillside Cleaners, Postal Plus, etc).

The Glenview Community is very active, with a neighborhood listserve where one only needs to ask to receive a kombucha scoby, find out where the latest free-sale is, find a lost cat, get the skinny on local politics, or learn about the latest school fundraiser. To connect and engage with the “Glenfriends”, one simply needs to join the Groups.io neighborhood listserve: “Communications in the Glenview Neighborhood of Oakland”

About Glenview, Oakland

The Glenview neighborhood is a beautiful and historic neighborhood in Oakland. There are many charming and sweet Glenview homes, of a wide variety of styles. Most Glenview homes are mid-sized 2 and 3-bedroom craftsman bungalows built between the late 1920s and World War II. Each home has it’s own unique history, and many have been lovingly restored and updated while maintaining the home’s original and unique features. Like much of Oakland, there are still many Glenview homes that are awaiting their new owner to update them and restore them to their former glory.

The Glenview lies in the Oakland foothills, bordering Dimond Park on the eastern side of the district, and Park Boulevard on the northwestern side. The upper portion of the neighborhood sits on the west side of Park Boulevard and is bordered by the Trestle Glen neighborhood as well as the City of Piedmont. To the south, the neighborhood is delimited by MacArthur Blvd and the 580 Freeway.
